  • To the Residents of County Road 6494

As you are aware, the County has been actively securing inspections of the bridge on CR-6494 over Long John Creek. In 2025, LJA Engineering has performed numerous inspections along with a “specialty” testing firm, Olson Engineering. Additionally,  TCEQ and TxDOT have also conducted their own investigations. The most recent inspections have revealed items requiring our prompt attention.

    1. Address the flow of water under and around the dam
    2. Backfill the 30” diameter drilled shaft (piling) on the southeast corner of the bridge
    3. Repair the undermining at the approach slab (ramp) on the south side of the bridge

With LJA Engineering and TxDOT recommendation, the County has implemented the following until the repair strategy has been engineered, approved, contract awarded, and work completed.

    1. Restrict the bridge to one lane
    2. Perform monthly inspections by LJA Engineering
    3. Perform inspections after rain events by LJA Engineering
    4. Daily County inspections to assure the lane restrictive devices remain in place
    5. Update TxDOT with all findings

We would appreciate your patience as we work through these issues and ask that you help us to keep the barricades up until the repairs are completed.

Long term strategies will commence when the immediate issues are resolved.
